A little bit about the humans…

Nestled within the quaint embrace of Sanford, a story unfolds, weaving through generations like a timeless tapestry. Patrick Kelly, the torchbearer of a legacy, traces his roots back to the pioneers of Hollywood Farms – John and Ella Fields Jackson, visionaries who sowed the seeds of prosperity in 1907.

In the dawn of their journey, Hollywood Farms wasn't just a piece of land; it was a canvas where dreams blossomed. Was it the allure of Hollywood stardom or the whispering holly trees that inspired its name? The mystery lingers, adding an air of enchantment to the legacy.

As time unfurled, the story meandered through the hands of the resilient Jackson family. John William "Willie," a scion of Hollywood Farms, built a haven for his growing family in 1909 – a three-bedroom house that witnessed the laughter of eight children and the rhythm of a farming life.

In the passage of years, the reins passed to Malcolm "Pete" Jackson in 1962, a cultivator of both house and history. A man who wore the dual hats of a postal worker and a farmer, living a life etched with hard work and dedication. In the nurturing haven of Hollywood Farms, Inez Jackson raised the next generation – Patricia and Debbie – two daughters destined for their own adventures beyond the family hearth.

With the departure of the elders, the story took a turn. Malcolm, in his parting wisdom, entrusted a solemn vow to the family – let the land breathe, let it endure, never to let it be sold. His wish echoed through time, resonating in the ears of Patrick Kelly, a man of education and ambition. After achieving a Masters of Public Administration, he returned to Sanford with a promise to break the farming tradition.

In the Jackson house, where echoes of laughter mingled with the rustle of farming tales, Patrick took residence. Yet, the story leaves us on the edge, a glimpse into Hollywood Farms and the enigmatic Patrick Kelly, a man who exchanged the plow for the great public service, leaving us eager to unravel the unwritten chapters of this captivating saga.

History

THe Family

If you delve into the farm's history, you'll stumble upon that last line about Patrick swearing off any future farm adventures. No worries, feel free to share a chuckle with me. Let me formally introduce myself; I'm Katelyn. I'm the gal who waltzed into his life and brought the farmer back, calluses and all.

If you were to ask him, he might spin a different yarn, but this journey all began when HE sent me a video of an 8-week-old piglet getting belly scratches with a fork. Intrigued, I did some research, and before Patrick knew it, we found ourselves on a road trip to Fayetteville to pick up not one, but two pigs!

Now, our oldest son, Jackson, had a birthday wish – a goat! Secretly (or not-so-secretly), I was rooting for this too. We couldn't just stop at one, so just like that, we became a family of four with 2 pigs and 2 goats. Within a year, it snowballed into us currently having 6 pigs, 5 goats, 2 mini donkeys, 2 mini cows, 2 mini horses, 6 chickens, 2 rabbits, a duck, a dog, a barn cat, and a hedgehog. Somewhere in that miniature snowball, we decided to name the farm The Pint-Sized Pasture.

But hold on, there's more! We not only live on the land that began as Patrick's great-great-grandparents, but we reside in the house that his great-grandfather built. We take pleasure in carrying on the family torch and teaching our kids – Jackson, Kaleb, and Asher – all about the wonders of farm life.

We never thought that dirt path we took years ago would lead us to this, but our animals bring us so much joy that we wanted to share it with our community.
